Finally You Realized

Sindh's Home Minister Manzoor Wassan Said:

It's time we delivered results.
Thank God. It was about time.

Ummm, let me see, around hundred and fifty dead, hundreds of more families ruined. People are being kidnapped from their homes and their bodies are being discovered in sacks at road sides. City seems at siege. Citizens can't earn their livelihood. Daily wagers are starving. Economy is ruined. International investors are pulling out from this country's economic capital. Oh, I nearly forgot, the police 'commandos' being executed. And the largest city of Pakistan at the mercy of militias of political parties.

There was a joke a couple of years back when the streak of extremism had just started in Pakistan. It goes as one man asked another, what would have Pakistani government done if an incident like September 11 would have happene
d in Pakistan. The other calmly replied 'Double sawari pe pabani laga deti' (Would Restrict Pillion Seats). Not much to it, but the good news is that the exactly the plan Mr Wassan has. He has restricted pillion seats saying that this step would be useful in handling 'bad guys.' I fail to comprehend why is the pillion seat restriction and 'dafa 144' (more than three people cannot group together) the only solutions the government has got.

Well there is that confiscation of 140 weapons and of course the mass operation the para-military organizations did which led to arrest of 378 militants in Karachi. Great! I already feel safer. Specially after the report which was printed by a US based human rights organization that stated that only a single party has a private army of
30,000 soldiers in Karachi. And thats only one of the three political parties which sit together in coalition in assembly halls and are at arms in the streets of Karachi. The report further stated that total number of police men are 25,000. 7000 at desk jobs. 5000 at VIP duties. Leaving behind 13,000 who are at alternate duties of day and night. Meaning? Well to prote
ct the citizens we are left with somewhat 6 to 7 thousand men against those massive private militias. And remember this figure includes ASI's (Assistant Sub Inspector) like the which had been in Dubai for last five years but present in papers for which and every day, including weekends and all national holidays. Courtesy of these hardworking officers and our political leadership that the city is burning now.

First of all, this is not Unites States Fault. This is not India's fault. This is not Israel's fault. Foreign hand or no foreign hand these politicians sitting right above us are the ones responsible for this whole mess. The quicker we absorb this thing the better.

Secondly,
Bad politicians are elected by good citizens who don't vote.
We are the respons

ible ones for getting these people up there in those powerful positions from where they can burn up the whole city by

a single flaming sentence. We are the only ones who can set the things straight. The founders of this country had a vision. A vision where this country would be an example for the rest of the world. Where people will look at it and its citizens with awe. We were meant to be those citizens. We were to stand for the poor, for the just, for the oppressed. But

Someone who can't stand for himself cannot stand for anyone.

We owe it to them, not t
o ourselves but to them. We have to restore peace in this country for their sake, for the blo

od they sacrificed. These rulers aren't the ones to bring about a change in society. They won't surrender the comfort
and luxury to us. They will linger on body like a parasite with these statements until they have sucked all the blood or we had pushed them away. We would have to take rights from them now for it is not a choice but an obligation. An obligation and a sacred duty to the millions on whose blood we breathe this free air.

Self Deceptive Vegetarians

Herbert Shelton once said:

"There is not a single argument nor a single fact that can be offered in favor of flesh eating that cannot be offered, with equal strength, in favor of cannibalism."

Some of us may agree with it while others may not. We all are entitled to our views. After all its a free world. We may be vegetarians and we may not be. It may be due to religious, moral, ethical and/or, political views or simply health issues. But there is a large population out th

ere who are vegetarians because they believe life in every form should be respected, that slaughter just for taste is not justifiable. Humans should live at peace with fellow creatures. While there are many others who argue that humans by nature are neither

herbivores nor carnivores, they have two distinct set of teeth for two differen

t purposes and are omnivores. They believe that by nature and natural instinct humans eat meat.

My objective over here is not to get into discussion wether one should be vegetarian or not. It was just the other day when I was hanging out with some friends and ordered some

food that some one in the group said that they are vegetarian and would prefer only vegetarian diet. While we were waiting for the food a heated discussion evolved as to wether we should be or shouldn't be vegetarians.

I personally don't have a strong opinion in this regard. I do believe that life should be respected. We are called humans for a reason, because we are 'humane'; we shouldn't be acting like the carnivores who mercilessly tear apart their victims. Regarding human instinct and nature dan Piraro said:

"Here's a test you can try at home: put a two-year-old in a playpen with an apple and a rabbit. If it plays with the apple and eats the rabbit, you've got a carnivore."

We are humans

by nature and should act as one. Not like Carnivores. But then again we have two set of teeth, made for vegies AND meat. I don't know its selfishness or incapability that unfortunately I'm a non-vegetarian. But what I am, I am discrete about it. If I eat meat, I am doing harm to animals, to life, its wrong and I admit it.

But I was extremely disappointed to see my friends, who advocated so strongly about being Vegetarian and Humane to animals and showing some ethical values, shopping ironically on leather products.

We "advertise" ourselves as being vegetarians because we care about life. Do we? We don't eat meat because we believe that it is the murder of life that we are feeding ourselves with and then we hop lavishly on the same murder. Aren't we deceiving only ourselves.

Truth is we don't care about life at all. What we do care is about our public image. As vegetarians getting the special attention of being humanists when ironically we are worse of than animals. The thing that really matters is that first of all we should come out of self deception. If we care about animals, we need to cover the second ground too. The ground where 'humanity' stops us from spending ourselves on leather products like shoes, bags, jackets and everything else that claimed a life.

My purpose here is not discourage Vegetarianism but only refine it to the degree where it really does become humane. This article is not meant for those who are already boycotting these products or to mock vegetarians in general. It is just an effort that if we do propagate ourselves as being humane then let us do in true spirit. Otherwise it serves no purpose at all.
